Dores Track and Field Doesn't Stop

Day 1 ends with a broken school record, two top 10 program finishes and several personal bests

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt track and field team started out this weekend’s Music City Challenge with a strong showing. Several Commodores bettered their performances, posting personal bests in both running and field events.

For the fourth week in a row, freshman Kosi Umerah set a new personal best and broke the school record for weight throw with her 19.87 toss. With that performance, Umerah finished third in the weight throw open and landed in the top 40 on the NCAA’s indoor qualifying list.

In the mile, senior Caroline Eck improved her personal best time, finishing the race in 4:46.44. This put her third on Vanderbilt’s top 10 list and earned her a spot on the SEC’s top 25 list for the event.

After setting a new personal best in the mile two weeks ago at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, sophomore Julia Rosenberg continues to improve, posting a time of 4:52.35. She shaved more than 2 seconds off her last time out on the track.

Sophomore Rondajai Washington added her name to the Vanderbilt top 10 list in the 200-meter dash and earned a sixth-place finish in the event. Washington clocked a 24.46, which is fifth in program history.

Day 2 of the Music City Challenge will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. for running events and 9:30 a.m. for field events.
