NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 34 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to take on No. 63 Alabama in its first match of the SEC Women’s Tennis Championship tournament on Thursday.
The Dores are coming off of their last matches at home, going 2-1 over the weekend. Vanderbilt faced No. 47 Louisiana State University on Friday and came away with a 4-1 victory, followed by a 6-0 win over Tennessee State University. On Sunday, the Commodores celebrated their three seniors and played a hard-fought battle against No. 2 Texas A&M to finish out the regular season. In the latest ITA poll, three Dores earned a spot in the individual rankings: Celia-Belle Mohr at No. 34, Bridget Stammel at No. 89 and Anna Ross at No. 117.
The Crimson Tide are 5-8 in conference play, with its most recent victory against Missouri. Alabama heads into the SEC tournament on a three-match losing streak. The team features one ranked singles player and one ranked doubles pairing.
Last season, Vanderbilt faced a similar path; the Dores made it through the first round to then play Texas A&M, which ended their tournament run. This year, if Vanderbilt beats Alabama, they will advance to play Texas A&M once again in the SEC quarterfinals on Friday.
The match is scheduled to begin at noon CT on Thursday. Live stats and live stream links can be found on the Vanderbilt women’s tennis schedule page.
