Mohr, Lee extend singles win streaks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 35 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team defeated No. 49 Kentucky 5-2 on Saturday.

Even with a last-minute switch to play indoors due to weather, the Dores were ready. No. 73 Celia-Belle Mohr and Marcella Cruz capitalized early with a 6-2 victory on Court 2. Bridget Stammel and Anessa Lee clinched the doubles point for the Dores on Court 3 to give Vandy the advantage heading into singles.

In singles, the Dores’ momentum continued. No. 35 Mohr took down No. 32 Florencia Urrutia in two sets and extended her win streak to six. On Court 4, Lee won in two sets to extend her win streak to five and put the Dores within one point of winning the match. Shortly after, Stammel claimed the winning point for Vandy with her two-set victory on Court 3.

The remaining singles matches were played out, and Vandy was able to pick up an additional point from Holly Staff.

The Dores will finish the regular season at home when they face No. 52 LSU and TSU on Friday and celebrate senior day against No. 2 Texas A&M on Sunday.
