The Vanderbilt swim team closed out its first weekend at home Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Sportsplex. The Commodores finished 1-1; falling to San Diego State University, 121-113 and defeated the University of Arkansas-Little Rock 198-43.
“Overall I am very pleased with how we did this weekend,” said head coach Jeremy Organ. “We have a short week with our next meet this Thursday so we will try to get some good work in the first part of the week. I think looking at the team everyone did something we can build on so I feel really good about moving forward.”
The `Dores had impressive back-to-back first place finishes, with the first victory coming from sophomore Kathryn Coughlin in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 29.95. Freshman, Breanna Sapienza, followed Coughlin in the 100-yard fly swimming a time of 55.73.
The Commodores also had an impressive swim in the 1650-yard free, with sophomore Kathrn Babbin winning second with a time of 17:34.49 in the longest event of the weekend.
Vandy hits the road traveling to Pensacola, Fla. this week to take on the University of North Florida and host school the University of West Florida on Thursday.
