Dores sweep double-dip

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Commodores swept the double-header Sunday, improving to 8-4 as they completed the day with a 6-1 win over MTSU.

Jackie Wu clinched the match against MTSU, defeating Yuiri Nomoto 6-2, 6-2 a year after Nomoto bested Wu in a match. “I’m proud of the way we maintained our focus in the second match today,” said Wu. “It’s a great way to prepare for the conference.”

The women finished their doubles matches within two minutes of each other, sweeping the point with 8-4, 8-6, and 8-5 decisions. Marie Casares and Alex Leatu finished their doubles match first with an 8-6 win over Marietta Bigus and Yuiri Nomoto. Wu and Lauren Mira won the point with their 8-4 win in the No. 1 position against Lexi Brand and Nayara Moraes.

Casares put the Dores up 2-0 as the first of the singles matches to finish. Nelly Radeva, Wu, Mira, and Leatu followed suit, with all five winning in straight sets for a 6-0 lead.

“I think we built some great momentum heading into the conference with these wins,” said Tsoubanos. “Especially with all the time off, we came out and played well in singles, and the work we put in this week really paid off. We were a very wind-savvy team today.”

Vanderbilt starts conference play next Friday as Arkansas comes to town.
