Vandy falls to No. 6 Virginia in NCAA Super Regionals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – At the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club, the No. 31 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team fell to No. 6 Virginia in the NCAA Super Regionals on Saturday.

The Commodores and Cavaliers wrestled with the doubles point and Vanderbilt ultimately came up short when Court 2’s Bridget Stammel and Valeria Ray fell in a 7-5 match to Hibah Shaikh and Natasha Subhash. First to finish in doubles was Anessa Lee and Amy Stevens on Court 3, defeated by Meggie Navarro and Sara Ziodato 6-1. Célia-Belle Mohr and Holly Staff’s match went unfinished.

Virginia grabbed two more points right out of the gate in singles, but the Commodores wouldn’t go away easily. Court 5 finished first when No. 125 Elaine Chervinsky overcame Staff 6-1, 6-2, and shortly after Subhash defeated Ray on Court 3 6-3, 6-2. No. 13 Mohr picked up the lone point for Vandy in a close three-set match against No. 24 Shaikh.
