NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis claimed their first league win of the season with a convincing 5-1 victory over visiting Missouri. After clinching the doubles point in three sets, the Commodores went on to beat the Tigers on four singles courts for the victory.
Seeing Double
- The Commodores opened the afternoon match on top securing the doubles point with a win on Court 1.
- Marcella Cruz and Amy Stevens clinched their match at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 victory over their Missouri opponents before Anessa Lee and Holly Staff dropped a close decision minutes later by the same score.
- Anna Ross and Yufei Long grabbed the first point of the match with their 6-2 victory on the top court to advance to singles with the 1-0 lead.
Strong Singles
- The Tigers tied it up with a win on Court 1 but it didn’t take long for Stevens to reclaim the Vanderbilt lead with her win in straight sets at No. 5 singles.
- Cruz added to the Commodores lead with a series of 6-4 and 6-2 victories on Court 4 to make it 3-1.
- With a win on Court 3, Holly Staff clinched the contest for the Dores with a win in straight sets, 6-2 and 7-5.
- On Court 2, Long battled it out to a third set tie break, ultimately claiming the fifth and final point of the afternoon with 6-3, 5-7, 11-9 set scores.
- Dasha Kourkina won her first set, 6-1, before her match was called early for the 5-1 final score.
