For the second straight year Vanderbilt’s recruiting class is ranked No. 1 by Baseball America.
In the 13 years of the Baseball America poll no school has ever posted back-to-back top-ranked recruiting classes and only one school (Arizona State 2000, 2008) has more than one top-ranked class. The Commodores now have three during the span (2005, 2011, 2012). The Dores’ 11-man class already pulled in the top spot from Collegiate Baseball last month making the class the consensus No. 1 class in the nation.
“It isn’t easy to compete annually in the unrelentingly deep SEC, but Vanderbilt has certain advantages over its peers,” writes Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt. “As the only private school in the conference, Vandy can offer potential recruits the experience of playing in the nation’s premier league along with an elite education.”
Since 2006, Vanderbilt has been to the NCAA Tournament every year joining South Carolina, Florida and Arkansas as the only SEC schools to accomplish the feat.
“They just have a unique sell: ‘Come get a $250,000 degree, come play in the SEC, here’s Pedro Alvarez and David Price,'” one rival SEC recruiter told Fitt. “Nashville’s a great city, they have a great campus. They just have a really good package to sell right now, and they have an abnormal amount of institutional aid.”
