Updates from summer ball

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With summer ball winding down, several Commodores have shined in their respective leagues across the country.

Cape Cod League

After competing for Team USA, RJ Austin joined the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. In 15 games, Austin is second on the team in average (.321) with a pair of home runs and nine RBI to go with six doubles. Austin has scored 10 times and is 6-for-7 on steal attempts.

JD Thompson made five appearances, including two starts, for the Bourne Braves. The southpaw posted a 2-1 record with a 1.93 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 14.0 innings.

Pitchers Ethan McElvain and Miller Green are also competing for Bourne. McElvain, who pitched for Team USA earlier this month, has allowed just one earned run over 11.2 innings with 15 strikeouts. Green has 12 strikeouts over 7.2 innings.

Also with Bourne, Braden Holcomb has shined as one of the top hitters for the Braves this summer. Holcomb leads the team in RBI with 17 and is second in hits with 34. Holcomb has registered a .321 average with one homer and five doubles to go with seven steals.

Holcomb earned an All-Star selection and was the starting DH for the West Division squad in the CCBL All-Star Game on July 27. Elsewhere around the Cape, JD Rogers has put together a strong summer campaign for Brewster and earned an All-Star selection. Rogers is hitting .289 with a home run and a pair of doubles. He’s second on the team with 11 stolen bases.

Jayden Davis has driven in 10 runs for for Chatham with a home run and six doubles. On the mound, Luke Guth is tied for most innings pitched on Brewster’s team with 22.0 frames. Guth is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA over seven appearances including four starts. Also on the Whitecaps is Levi Huesman who is second on the team with 23 strikeouts. Brennan Seiber has tossed 13.0 innings for Orleans with 17 strikeouts. Also for Orleans, Alex Kranzler has a 3.97 ERA over 11.1 innings.

New England Collegiate Baseball League

Colin Barczi was named MVP of the NECBL All-Star Game on July 21 and leads Sanford in hitting with a .397 clip. Barczi has clubbed three home runs with 18 RBI, a triple and six doubles.

Northwoods League

Up in La Crosse, Wisconsin, RJ Hamilton is hitting .281 with 28 RBI and 12 doubles. On the bases, Hamilton is a perfect 36-for-36 on steal attempts. His 36 steals is second in the league but Hamilton is the only player with 13 or more stolen bases without being caught.

Jakob Schulz has made 10 appearances for Duluth with 19.2 innings of work and 23 strikeouts.
