NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Twenty-two Commodores are competing in various collegiate leagues around the country this summer.
Four Commodores were named to the 2023 Cape Cod League All-Star teams. Jonathan Vastine and Bryce Cunningham from Bourne, Davis Diaz from Brewster and RJ Austin from Yarmouth-Dennis will represent Vandy in the CCBL All-Star Game on July 22.

Vastine ranks third in the CCBL in batting with a .343 average. He has seven extra-base hits to his name, including a pair of triples. He has stolen nine bases and is tied for second on the Braves with 14 RBIs. Cunningham has impressed in three starts with Bourne, owning a 1.84 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. Its his second consecutive CCBL All-Star selection. Diaz is hitting .274 with a home run and five doubles and leads Brewster with a .386 on-base percentage. Austin’s .304 average currently leads Yarmouth-Dennis. He has drawn 13 walks to just ten strikeouts and holds an on-base percentage of .459.

Elsewhere in the CCBL, Chris Maldonado has homered five times for the Chatham Anglers. Greysen Carter, pitching for the Orleans Firebirds, has 6.1 innings to his name without an earned run. Sam Hliboki, also with Orleans, has thrown 8.1 innings with eight strikeouts.
Vanderbilt is also represented in the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star game with Logan Poteet being selected from Sanford.

Poteet carries a .309 average which puts him first amongst all qualified catchers and 10th amongst qualified hitters in the NECBL. Poteet’s summer stat line shows a .400 on-base percentage, eight runs scored, three home runs and 19 RBIs.
Troy LaNeve showed off the power this week in the Northwoods League for the La Crosse Loggers. LaNeve is batting .288 for the Loggers with four homers and 15 RBIs.

JD Thompson, competing for the Newport Gulls of the NECBL, was named the Player of the Game on July 2 after tossing six innings with zero earned runs allowed, 12 strikeouts and no walks. Thompson has two appearances for Newport, totaling 9.1 innings. He’s 2-0 with 17 strikeouts and hasn’t allowed an earned run.
