Dores in the Pros - Postseason Push

Updates from around MLB and MiLB

With two weeks remaining in the MLB regular season, two former Commodores have already secured a postseason berth with several others in contention.

Dansby Swanson and the Chicago Cubs secured their first postseason trip since 2020 with a win over the Pirates on Wednesday. Swanson owns a 4.8 WAR this season, hitting .249 with 22 homers and 75 RBI.

Walker Buehler signed with the Philadelphia Phillies recently after spending most of the regular season with the Boston Red Sox. Buehler made his Phillies debut on Sept. 12, tossing five innings of one-run ball in an 8-2 win over the Royals. He allowed five hits while striking out three, walking one and hitting a batter.

Buehler and the Phillies clinched the NL East division with a win over the Dodgers on Monday.

Other former Dores in the playoff hunt include Connor Kaiser (Arizona Diamondbacks), Sonny Gray (St. Louis Cardinals) and Jack Leiter (Texas Rangers).

The MLB regular season may be winding down, but the Arizona Fall League is preparing to get underway with three Dores competing in the six-team mini-season that starts Oct. 6 and runs through Nov. 15.

Bryce Cunningham (New York Yankees) will play for the Mesa Solar Sox. Enrique Bradfield Jr. (Baltimore Orioles) for the Peoria Javelinas and Hunter Owen (Kansas City Royals) for the Surprise Saguaros.

Riley Nelson (Cleveland Guardians) helped lead his Lynchburg Hillcats club to their first Carolina League Championship since 2017 on Wednesday. Nelson hit a two-run homer in the first inning to open the scoring.

From Single-A to Triple-A, Spencer Jones (New York Yankees) became the first minor leaguer across all levels to reach the 35-home run milestone this week. He homered twice on Wednesday for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, his fifth multi-homer game on the season.

The final update this week comes from Minnesota, where Austin Martin has been making plays at the plate and in the field. He’s hitting .333 over the last 15 games with 18 hits, nine walks and eight runs scored.
