NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The fall season continues for the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team as the Commodores travel to Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend for the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship, hosted by the University of Tennessee. The tournament will run from Wednesday, Oct. 12 through Monday, Oct. 18.
Qualifying rounds begin on Wednesday morning, while the main draws are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday. Seven Commodores will see action in the tournament, with six playing in the singles draw and three pairs in the doubles flight.
Jackie Wu and Rachael Dillon are the No. 3 seed in the doubles draw, and will face Kate Chybowski and Dora Kotsiou of Evansville in the first round. Lauren Mira and Chelsea Preeg are scheduled to play Andra Voinea and Giulia Andreazza of ETSU, while Erica Robertson and Alex Leatu will play Kelsey Kinnard and Tifanie Treece of Xavier in the first round.
In singles play, Wu and Mira will face winners from the qualifying draw in their opening round matches. Preeg, Dillon and Leatu are slated to play SEC opponents in their first matches in Tennessee’s Kayla McMurry, Marni Venter of Kentucky and Megan Broderick of UK, respectively. Nelly Radeva will take on Chybowski.
The singles and doubles champion from this weekend will advance to the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place Nov. 4-7 at the new indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
