'Dores go undefeated on final day of June Stewart Invitational

The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wrapped up its final day hosting the June Stewart Invitational going undefeated in both singles and doubles competition. The Invitational continued changing formats as the final rounds were played the regular format played in the spring with ad-scoring.

What looked like another day of gloomy weather, forced Sunday’s play to begin inside, but by the time the Commodores took the courts the sun was out and the courts were dry enough to allow the tournaments last few matches to be played outdoors.

“Overall we are very pleased with our team’s performance throughout the weekend,” said associate head coach Aleke Tsoubanos. “I thought we competed extremely well and really took it to a pretty good Princeton team today and it was nice to get the match played outside after two long days indoors and the weather not cooperating. I’m glad we were able to try a few different formats over the course of the weekend and look forward to seeing what the student-athletes and the other coaches thought. We will give the team a couple days off here and rest then turn our attention to the regionals in Knoxville this weekend.”

Vanderbilt added impressive wins to this weekend’s resume Sunday, not dropping a single set throughout Sunday’s tournament action. Vandy finished the weekend going 20-9 overall in combined singles and doubles. Throughout the entire weekend Vanderbilt compiled a 15-5 singles mark and 5-4 doubles record.

The Commodores are on the road again for the fourth tournament of the season after attending the Furman Fall Classic, ITA All-Americans, and hosting this weekend’s June Stewart Invitational. The team will be competing in the Ohio Valley Regionals, a four-day tournament held in Knoxville, Tenn.
