AUBURN, Ala. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team had another impressive showing today at the second day of the SEC Fall Coaches Classic, held at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on the campus of Auburn University. Three Commodores will play in championship matches tomorrow in singles action while one doubles pair claimed a title today.
Erica Robertson and Chelsea Preeg won doubles Flight 2 after defeating Olivia Janowicz and Claire Bartlett of Florida, 9-8(9-7). Lauren Mira and Alex Leatu won their match in Flight 3, 8-1, over Arkansas’ Kate Lukomskaya and Kelsey Starkova.
Vanderbilt has the chance to claim three more championships tomorrow, as Leatu, Mira and Robertson will play in the final match for their respective singles flights. Leatu dropped her first set, 2-6, to Alabama’s Taylor Lindsey before winning the next two, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinal match of Flight 3B. She will face Janowicz tomorrow. In Flight 4A, Mira took down Meritt Emery, also of Alabama, 7-6(2), 6-1, to advance to the finals tomorrow. Robertson defeated South Carolina’s Dominika Kanakova, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, en route to the championship match of Flight 4B.
Also picking up a win for the Commodores was Rachael Dillon in Flight 1B. She defeated Olesya Tsigvintesva of Mississippi State, 7-6(2), 6-3. In Flight 5B, Megan Gornet defeated Kentucky’s Nicole Scates, 6-2, 6-3. She will face Rachael Hart of Georgia in the third rotation of the round-robin flight.
Keilly Ulery will play in the third-place match of Flight 2B after falling to Alex Anghelescu of Georgia, 6-4, 6-0.
