NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt dropped the series finale to Florida, 6-2, Saturday afternoon at Hawkins Field.
The Dores opened the scoring in the bottom of the third. Colin Barczi hit a leadoff double past a diving first baseman. Davis Diaz worked a two-out walk with Barczi on third to put runners on the corners. Diaz took second on a wild pitch and Alan Espinal knocked both runners in with a double down the third base line.
Florida responded with a pair of doubles in the top of the fourth to cut Vandy’s lead to 2-1 and used a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to go in front, 4-2.
The Gators added two more runs on a double by Tyler Shelnut in the top of the ninth to take a 6-2 lead. Shelnut finished the game with five RBI.
The Dores are 8-1 in home SEC games this season after winning each of the first three home series. After a midweek meeting with UT Martin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Vandy hosts a three-game series against Mississippi State beginning Friday.
Tuesday’s contest against UT Martin will air on SEC Network+.
