KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s run at the 2011 SEC Women’s Tennis Championships came to an end Saturday morning at the hands of Florida. The Gators topped the Commodores, 4-0, and will advance to the championship match on Sunday.
The Gators started off the morning strong in doubles, as eighth-ranked Allie Will and Alexandra Cercone topped Jackie Wu and Rachael Dillon, 8-1, on court one. Florida clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 victory on court three. Chelsea Preeg and Lauren Mira were leading 5-4 in the No. 2 match when play was suspended.
In singles, Florida picked up the first three victories to earn the match win. Oliva Janowicz, ranked 51st in the nation, topped Dillon, 6-2, 6-2, on court six to give Florida a 2-0 advantage. No. 75 Alex Leatu fell to No. 21 Lauren Embree, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 1 match. Sixth-ranked Allie Will sealed the victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Preeg on court two.
The Commodores leading on courts three, four and five when Florida clinched the win.
The Commodores will learn their NCAA Tournament regional pairings next week.
