NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The final fall tournament of the 2025 year begins tomorrow for Vanderbilt women’s tennis as the Dores take on the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships Nov. 18-23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Singles play is set to begin tomorrow with the opening round of doubles slated for a Wednesday start. Vanderbilt is sending five qualifiers to Orlando: graduate Célia-Belle Mohr, senior Bridget Stammel, junior Valeria Ray, sophomore Sophia Webster and freshman Mia Yamakita. Stammel, Ray and Yamakita will represent the Dores in singles while Mohr and Webster will compete in doubles. It marks the most players Vanderbilt has sent to the NCAA Championships in program history. Including this season’s qualifiers, the Dores have sent a total of 43 singles players and 40 doubles players to the NCAA Championships since 2000. During that span, Vandy has advanced to the singles semifinals twice, in 2017 and 2018, and the doubles finals once, in 2004.
No. 27 Stammel and No. 45 Ray will kick things off for the Dores tomorrow morning. Stammel punched her qualifying ticket after finishing as a co-champion at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships. It is the senior’s second career tournament appearance. She is off to a 6-2 start with four ranked wins, generating a 87-50 set advantage over opponents thus far. Stammel matches up against No. 3 Reese Brantmeier of North Carolina, the event’s No. 9-16 seed, tomorrow at 8 a.m.
No. 45 Ray will also take the court at 8 a.m. tomorrow versus Ohio State’s No. 11 ranked Teah Chavez. The junior secured a qualifying spot last weekend with a singles playoff win at the ITA Sectional Championships. It is her second tournament appearance, both coming in back-to-back seasons. Yamakita rounds out the Vanderbilt singles players tomorrow in a 4 p.m. contest with No. 120 Darya Schwartzman from Rice. It is Yamakita’s first tournament berth, and she enters as a No. 9-16 seed in her debut season. The freshman is 6-1 while going 2-0 against ranked opponents.
