MURFREESBORO, Tenn. –Two Commodore pairs competed in the doubles main draw Round of 32 in the ITA regionals on Thursday at the Adams Tennis Complex.
“It was a really strong opening day for both doubles pairs. I am looking forward to a great weekend of tennis in Murfreesboro. If any Vanderbilt fans want to come watch some really good tennis, come out to the Adams Tennis Complex and cheer on the Dores,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald.
Making their doubles tandem debut, freshmen Dasha Kourkina and Marcella Cruz teamed up to take on Miami’s (Ohio) Rico and Ramasamy. The freshmen duo commanded a strong start to secure their spot in the Round of 16 with an 8-4 victory.
Joining Cruz and Kourkina in the Round of 16, No. 1 seeded doubles pair freshman Anna Ross and senior Emma Kurtz took down Indiana’s McKamey and Kubas in the Roudn of 32. The Commodore dup bested McKamey and Kubas, 8-5.
Both doubles tandems will compete in the doubles Round of 16 at 5 p.m. CT on Friday.
