COLUMBIA, Mo. – The 5th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team left Columbia, Mo. with its sixth sweep of the season and first of conference play, in a 4-0 victory over the No. 60 Missouri Tigers.
Vandy began the match successfully flying through doubles action. Georgina Sellyn and Fernanda Contreras earned the first victory for the black and gold on court three for the first of two commanding 6-2 wins.
Competing together for the first time since Feb. 20th, No. 10 Courtney Colton and Sydney Campbell sealed the point advantage over Mizzou, only giving up two games against Machado Santos and Lashway.
In singles, Vanderbilt picked up three straight set wins on courts two, one and three respectively. Coming off her WTA debut, No. 13 Frances Altick picked up an easy 6-2, 6-3 win over Kelli Hine on court two. Astra Sharma pulled out two tight 6-4 sets over Lashway to clinch Vanderbilt’s 15th victory this season and eighth of SEC action.
VU’s final victory of the outing came as No. 19 Campbell ran away with the first set, 6-0, over No. 60 Machado Santos, but the Tiger took the Commodore to a second set tiebreaker with Campbell coming out on top 7-6(2).
Notes:
-The Commodores are 4-0 against the Tigers, having only dropped one singles match in four seasons.
-Vandy is currently on a seven-match win streak.
– Friday’s doubles outting was the first SEC competition for Colton/Campbell since the Florida match in NCAA quarterfinals
– Junior Sydney Campbell is just one win shy from her 75th career victory
– Frances Altick remains undefeated in the dual season, 14-0 (9-0)
