AUBURN, Ala. – Vanderbilt dropped its SEC opener, 6-2, at Auburn on Friday night at Plainsman Park.
Jonathan Vastine got the Commodores on the board first with a rocket over the right field wall in the top of the third. Jacob Humphrey led off the inning with a single to set up Vastine for his third homer on the season, giving Vandy a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers bounced back in the home half of the third with a five-run frame. Auburn used four hits and took advantage of a walk, hit-by-pitch and a pair of wild pitches.
Auburn extended its lead to four with a run in the bottom of the sixth and would hang on for the 6-2 win.
No. 16 Vanderbilt and No. 25 Auburn continue the series Saturday at 11 a.m. on SECN+.
