GAINESVILLE, Fla. — No. 5 Vanderbilt lost 10-0 to No. 7 Florida in seven innings in the series opener Friday night at Condron Ballpark.
Florida scored multiple runs in three consecutive innings to take an 8-0 lead through four innings played. The Gators scored three runs in the second, including a two-run homer, two in the third and three in the fourth, including another two-run shot.
Florida ended the game with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to go up by 10.
The Commodores totaled six hits but stranded 10 runners on base. Davis Diaz led the offense with a two-hit night.
Patrick Reilly (L, 3-2) picked up the loss. Reilly went four innings and struck out five.
The Commodores and Gators meet at 5:30 p.m. CT on Saturday for Game 2 on SECN+.
