No. 11 Texas A&M defeats Vanderbilt on Friday

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. — Vanderbilt women’s tennis dropped its sixth conference match of the season on Friday when No. 11 Texas A&M earned a 7-0 victory over the Commodores at the George P. Mitchell ’40 Tennis Center.

The Aggies picked up their sixth conference victory, winning back-to-back matches. Doubles began with the duo of Jeanette Mireles and Lucciana Perez taking Court 2 over Bridget Stammel and Valeria Ray 6-4. Holly Staff and Amy Stevens fell on Court 3, giving A&M the advantage going into singles. Célia-Belle Mohr and Anessa Lee’s match went unfinished.

Court 2 continued the Aggies’ winning streak when No. 14 Nicole Khirin overcame Stammel, ranked 66th, 6-2, 6-2. Perez took Court 4 shortly after, defeating Lee 6-2, 6-1, alongside No. 36 Mia Kupres on Court 3 beating Ray 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the match. Stevens then fell on Court 6 to Daria Smetannikov, No. 11 Mohr was bested by No. 1 Mary Stoiana as was Staff on Court 5 to close out the match.
