MORAGA, Calif. – The No. 7 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team began its final weekend of non-conference play with a 6-1 road win over Saint Mary’s. With the victory the Commodores improve to 5-3 on the season.
With each team taking a doubles win, VU captured a tight doubles point at No. 2 for the clinch. Veterans Georgina Sellyn and Sydney Campbell pulled off a 7-5 win over Jana McCord and Kareena Manji for the clinch following Astra Sharma and Emily Smith’s 6-1 win on court one and Emma Kurtz and Christina Rosca’s loss on court three, 6-3.
In singles, the `Dores were hot out of the gate taking five of six first sets. The team implemented a new lineup, which proved successful as all victories came in straight sets. The Gaels’ lone point of the competition came on court three as Sellyn fell in a tough three-setter, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
The Commodores will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, as the team takes on its sixth top 25 opponent in the No. 25 Stanford Cardinal (4-1). First serve is slated for 2 pm CT with action found HERE.
