Vandy picks up first conference win, seventh shutout this year

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Addie Porter and Caroline Betts each scored a goal to lead Vanderbilt to its first SEC win of the season on Thursday night at Texas A&M.

Tonight’s win marks the first win in program history at Ellis Field. It also is Vandy’s first SEC road win since its 5-2 victory at Florida during the 2022 season.

Vandy keeper Sara Wojdelko tallied her fifth shutout this year and made a single game-high tying five saves on the night.

Vanderbilt (6-2-5, 1-2-3) took 12 shots in the match and controlled 53 percent of the possession. The Commodores earned six corner kicks, one of which resulted in a score from Porter for her third goal of the season. Maci Teater registered her sixth assist of the year off a perfect service that connected to Porter’s head for the score.

Betts found the back of the net in the 81st minute off a cross from Courtney Jones from the opposite side of the field. Betts jumped over her defender and headed it straight on to put Vandy up 2-0.

Texas A&M (8-6, 3-3) had 16 shots in the match, the most Vandy has allowed this year, but just five were on target. The Aggies had four corner-kick opportunities but were unable to convert. Grace McClellan got the start in goal and finished with two saves.

The Commodores return to Music City on Sunday hosting RV Kentucky in a 6 p.m. kick. The match will be shown on SEC Network.
