MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team fell in the semifinals of singles and doubles play in Ohio Valley Regionals Saturday afternoon.

In singles action, freshman Amanda Meyer suffered her third loss of the fall against Kentucky’s Justina Mikulskyte. A back-and-forth semifinal match, the Wildcat came out on top of the first set against the Commodore, 6-4. Much like the first set, the two opponents battled throughout the second set, with the match ultimately coming down to a second-set tiebreaker. Mikulskyte limited Meyer to two points in the tiebreaker to take the match, 6-4, 7-6(2).

In doubles play, the Vandy duo of Emily Smith and Emma Kurtz suffered three-set setback in semifinals. Squaring off against UK’s Mikulskyte/Jacobs, the Commodore tandem came out on top of a competitive first set, 6-4. However, the experienced Wildcats rebounded to level the match after a dramatic second-set tiebreaker, 7-6(8). Mikulskyte/Jacobs sealed their spot in the doubles final, taking the third-set 10-point tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6(8), 10-8.

Vanderbilt’s next tournament will be at home, as the squad hosts the annual June Stewart Invitational, Oct. 27-29. Admission is free to all fans.
