NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt baseball returned to Hawkins Field on Friday night for two, seven-inning exhibitions against Tennessee Tech.
The Commodores outscored the Golden Eagles 12-5 over 14 innings, taking Game 1 by a score of 10-1 before Tennessee Tech rallied to win Game 2, 4-2.
Sophomore Braden Holcomb was one of three Dores to record an extra base hit on Friday when he tripled off the wall in right field. Senior JD Rogers drove in two runs on the day, one of four Commodores to drive in multiple runs.
Multiple newcomers saw action Friday night including freshman infielder Brodie Johnston, who homered, doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Transfer Riley Nelson tallied three hits, including a double, and scored twice. Fellow transfer Mike Mancini drove in two runs as well.
On the mound, 11 Vanderbilt arms registered 23 strikeouts over the 14 innings while holding the Golden Eagles to four earned runs on eight hits.
The Commodores will face Nevada on October 13 in Las Vegas for their next exhibition before wrapping up the fall schedule with the David Williams Fall Classic later in October.
