Day 2 Resutls | Order of play – Sunday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the matchups finalized for the singles and doubles draws of the June Stewart Invitational, Vanderbilt is guaranteed to come away with at least five draw titles this weekend. The doubles draw, as well as four out of the five singles draws, features all Commodores in the final match.
The duo of Lauren Mira and Erica Robertson defeated teammates Jackie Wu and Chelsea Preeg, 8-2, in one of the semifinal matches of the Valentine doubles draw. Alex Leatu and Rachael Dillon claimed the other slot in the championship match after knocking off Courtney Collins and Stefanie Mikesz of Memphis, 8-2. Wu and Preeg will face Collins and Mikesz in the third place match on Sunday morning.
In singles play, Vanderbilt will walk away with a winner in the Stotts, Balafas, Alexander and Peterson draws. Wu defeated Austin-Peay’s Vanja Tomic, 6-4, 7-5, and Mira topped Memphis’ Collins, 6-3, 6-2, in the semifinal matches of the Stotts draw. In the Balafas draw, Vanderbilt’s two transfers from Cal will square off in Sunday’s final. Dillon defeated MTSU’s Marietta Bigus, 7-5, 6-4, while Nelly Radeva cruised past Kathleen Hawkins of Memphis, 6-0, 6-1.
Alex Leatu and Preeg will play in the first place match of the Alexander draw. Preeg beat Yuiri Nomoto of MTSU, 6-3, 6-3, while Leatu defeated Mikesz of Memphis, 6-0, 7-5. Robertson and Megan Gornet will face each other in the final match of the Peterson draw. Robertson topped Alex Dachos of MTSU, 6-2, 6-2, and Gornet defeated Purdue’s Kirsten Magi, 7-5, 6-2.
The only singles draw to not feature two Commodore players is the Roby draw, where Keilly Ulery will play for the championship. She was the only Vanderbilt player to play in the draw, and cruised to the finals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in her semifinal match against Lipscomb’s Danielle Hansen.
The final round of doubles play begins Sunday morning at 9 a.m. followed by the final round of singles. Complete results will be posted to vucommodores.com on Sunday afternoon.
