ORLANDO, Fla. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team continued play at the USTA Clay Court Invitational at Disney, Friday, winning both its round of 16 doubles matches to advance in the main draw. The Commodores also went 2-1 in singles play.
The doubles team of Georgina Sellyn and Frances Altick won easily over Kucharova/Kitchen of Auburn, 8-3. Marie Casares and Ashleigh Antal also advanced in doubles action winning over Kiro and Sanders of Texas Tech.
Altick was eliminated from the from the singles main draw, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Peggy Porter of the USTA.
After both losing their opening matches on Thursday, both Antal and Sellyn won their first consolation match to move along in the draw. Antal won 6-2, 6-1 over Emily Oliver of New Mexico, while Sellyn won 6-4, 6-1 over Courtney Cesarini of Central Florida.
Both doubles teams will play main draw action on Saturday, while Antal, Sellyn and Casares will play in the re-drawn consolation round.
