KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team is represented by five players in the singles Round of 16 plus a pair of doubles teams are through to the quarterfinals following Friday’s play at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship at Tennessee.
Ten of Vanderbilt’s 11 singles victories Friday came in straight sets. The Dores won four more sets to love on the second day of the tournament after recording six shutout sets during Thursday’s first round.
Bridget Stammel, seeded third, dropped just four games in two singles matches to advance to the fourth round. She will be joined in the Round of 16 by two other teammates who are among the top five seeds, No. 1 Célia-Belle Mohr and No. 5 seed Anessa Lee.
Saturday’s singles schedule will include the Round of 16 matches in the morning followed by the quarterfinals in the afternoon. All five Commodore singles matches are against SEC foes, including four against the host Lady Vols.
A pair of Vanderbilt doubles teams—top seeds Mohr and Lee, as well as fourth seeds Holly Staff and Valeria Ray—advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinals. Both teams will face SEC foes.
