WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — No. 13 Vanderbilt men’s basketball went wire-to-wire in a dominating, 98-67, victory at Wake Forest Sunday afternoon.
Tyler Nickel led the way with 26 points on 8-of-10 from three-point range. It was Nickel’s second game with eight triples in the past three contests. Four other Dores reached double figures with Duke Miles dropping 17, Tyler Harris 14 and Devin McGlockton and Tyler Tanner each adding 11.
Vanderbilt (12-0) shot 59.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Dores knocked down 16 threes, including 10 in the first half to power the rout. Eight different Commodores hit a three on the day.
Nickel hit three triples in the opening minutes to stake the Dores to a nine-point lead just four minutes into the game. He finished the first half 6-of-8 from downtown with 20 points. Harris added 10 points in the opening frame as Vandy opened a 54-37 advantage at the break.
Vandy opened the second half on a 10-2 run to push the lead to 25 and never looked back. The Dores held Wake Forest (9-4) to just 35 percent from the field and 19 percent from three. Vandy forced 17 turnovers and registered 14 steals, led by five apiece from Tanner and Miles. The Dores held a 24-9 advantage in points off turnovers and a 36-20 edge in the paint.
Myles Colvin paced the Demon Deacons with 20 points while Juke Harris added 19.
Vanderbilt returns to action on Dec. 29 in a 6 p.m. tip against New Haven at Memorial Gymnasium.
