Deresky, Wagner Lead Commodores to 2-0 Win

Another clean sheet for Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt jumped back in the win column Thursday night, defeating Kentucky 2-0 at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.

Rachel Deresky and Alex Wagner provided the goals while the Commodores tallied their seventh clean sheet on the season.

Deresky beat the keeper with her left foot in the 34th minute, her fifth goal this season. Raegan Kelley picked up her eighth assist after entering the evening third in NCAA DI in assists per game. Deresky and Kelley are tied for the team lead in goals.

Vanderbilt wasted no time after the half and made it 2-0 in the 50th off an amazing, arching goal from Wagner. Vandy sent a corner kick into the box and after the ball was kept in the air off a header, Wagner ripped a volley that rainbowed over the keeper and into the back of the net.

It was Wagner’s second collegiate goal and first this season.

Sara Wojdelko made her first SEC start in goal and was only called upon for one save, which she made confidently. Vanderbilt’s back line kept Kentucky out of an offensive rhythm all night, limiting the Wildcats to just six shots.

With the win, Vanderbilt improved to 7-1-1 (1-1 SEC) while Kentucky fell to 7-3 (0-2 SEC). The Commodores hit the road for the first time in conference play and will visit Missouri at 1 p.m. Sunday on SEC Network+.
