NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Southeastern Conference announced SEC honors Wednesday afternoon, naming Vanderbilt sophomore, Daniel Valent, the SEC Player of the Week.
This is the first time the Zurich, Switzerland native has been acknowledged as the conference’s player of the week. During his debut season with the ‘Dores, Valent was awarded Freshman of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 22nd.
Valent earns the honor after clinching both victories this past Sunday over No. 25 Duke and the Tennessee State Tigers. The win over Duke at No. 1 was a huge personal victory, as the Commodore defeated No. 17 Nicolas Alvares in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The ranked win was Valent’s sixth on the season and second over an Oracle/ITA Top 25 opponent. With the doubleheader victories, he is now riding a 12-match win streak and has amassed a 48-10 record.
Danny and the rest of the ‘Dores are back on the road this weekend, taking on Northwestern Sunday, Feb. 20th at 11:00 am.
