Picking up a straight set victory in the SEC tournament and boasting a 14-2 (10-1) record, Vanderbilt freshman Fernanda Contreras was selected to the SEC All-Tournament Team as announced Sunday evening.
The SEC All-Tournament team is made up of players from each school in the tournament semifinals. All-Tournament team selection began in 2010, prior to that there was just one Tournament MVP named each season. With their 4-2 victory over MSU in quarterfinals, the Commodores have now won at least one match in the SEC Tournament for 16 consecutive seasons.
This marks the second time and second year in a row that a Commodore freshman has a spot on the All-Tournament team, with redshirt-freshman Astra Sharma earning Tournament MVP last season.
Bringing a positive attitude and dominating effort to each practice and match, Contreras has excelled in her debut season, with only one loss on courts five and six. The San Luis Potosi, Mexico native has also been recognized by the conference twice as the SEC Freshman of the Week.
