Freshman Fernanda Contreras was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Week Monday morning. This is the second time the San Luis Potosi, Mexico native has been given the conference honor.
Contreras earns the final honor of the season after going undefeated on the weekend in both singles and doubles action. In singles, “Fern” only have up a total of three games and earned her first career sweep over an opponent, let alone an SEC opponent.
With the regular season in the books, Contreras owns a 9-0 spotless conference record at No. 6 singles and boasts a 26-4 overall record. In doubles Contreras and Georgina Sellyn picked up two wins on court three, as the duo now own a 6-3 SEC record at No. 3.
The young Commodore looks to continue success this week, as the squad travels south to Louisiana for the SEC Tournament.
