Weekend Preview: Vanderbilt hosts No. 4 Texas for a three-game series at Hawkins Field beginning Friday.
- Vandy leads the all-time series 9-7 but this weekend marks the first meeting of the two schools in Nashville since 1907.
- The series is also the first time the two schools will meet since Texas joined the SEC.
- Vandy has won three in a row against Texas going back to Omaha in 2014. Most recently, the Dores beat the Longhorns in Arlington in 2023 and in Houston in 2024.
Brodie Barrels: Brodie Johnston leads the SEC in hits, is fourth in doubles and owns a nine-game hit streak entering the weekend.
- The sophomore has 14 two-baggers this season. He leads the team in total bases (115), good for fourth in the SEC and 17th in DI.
- He has a team-leading 19 multi-hit games this season including one four-hit performance and seven three-hit games.
- Defensively, Johnston has 8.77 defensive runs saved, good for 10th nationally among third basemen according to D1Baseball’s Synergy Leaderboard.
- Johnston’s 15 long balls in 2025 were the most by a Vanderbilt freshman since Pedro Alvarez hit 22 in 2006.
- He was named MVP of the 2025 SEC Tournament as a freshman.
Power Surge: Vanderbilt has hit 87 home runs this season, surpassing last season’s total of 66.
- The Commodores rank third in DI and have homered in all but eight games.
- Vanderbilt’s .955 team OPS ranks 12th in DI.
- The program record for home runs in a season was set in 2019 with 100. This year’s total is the most since the team hit 92 in 2021.
- Vandy’s seven homers in the win over North Dakota State on March 6 was the most in a game for the Dores since 2018.
Be Like Mike: Mike Mancini has hit eight home runs in SEC games, tied for the league lead.
- In SEC play, he is slugging .703, good for 15th in the conference. His 1.164 OPS ranks 13th in the conference.
- For the season, Mancini leads the team in stolen bases with 12 and is second in OPS at 1.075.
Brooks Wallace Award Semifinalist: Ryker Waite was named one of 50 semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award on April 22.
- He is hitting .301 this season with 16 extra-base hits, 32 RBI and a team-leading 35 walks.
- Defensively, Waite has 8.87 defensive runs saved, good for ninth nationally among shortstops according to D1Baseball’s Synergy Leaderboard.
- Waite’s 35 walks are fourth in the SEC, 47th in DI.
- The award honors the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year.
Holc Smash: Braden Holcomb leads Vanderbilt in doubles with 15 and is second in home runs with 12.
- Holcomb’s 55 hits is seventh in the SEC. He ranks 14th in RBI, 15th in home runs and 26th in slugging.
- The junior has five doubles in his last four games after tallying four in the series win at Kentucky.
Walk This Way: Vanderbilt’s 240 walks rank 11th among DI programs and second in the SEC.
- Ryker Waite leads the team with 35 walks.
- Second on the team is Logan Johnstone and Mike Mancini with 32. Waite is fourth in the SEC while Johnstone and Mancini rank seventh.
- After drawing 10 walks last season, Brodie Johnston has surpassed that total as a sophomore, currently sitting at 25.
Korbin Cannon: Freshman catcher Korbin Reynolds has thrown out 12 runners on the basepaths this season on just 28 attempts.
- He is tied for the league lead in runners caught stealing. Seven of them have come in SEC games, also tied for tops in the conference.
TGoodi on the Mic: In just 42 at-bats in SEC play, Tommy Goodin has hit five home runs.
- In SEC contests, Goodin ranks 14th in slugging and home runs.
- The sophomore has nine homers on the season in just 95 at-bats.
- With Vanderbilt trailing Tennessee by three runs in the ninth on March 29, Goodin launched a pinch-hit grand slam to lead the Dores past the Vols.
- A musician off the field, Goodin’s walk-up music is self-made.
