Commodores ranked No. 1 by BA

Nashville, Tenn, – Baseball America ranks Vanderbilt as the top team in the country in the publication’s poll this week.

The Commodores ascension to the top spot in college baseball comes after a series win at Arkansas and Florida’s series loss at home against South Carolina. Vandy has been the second-ranked team in the Baseball America Poll for the last four weeks beginning the season at four. The Gators slid to fourth while the Gamecocks moved up to third from fourth. Virginia is ranked second in between three SEC teams in the top four spots. LSU is ranked 17th and Alabama 25th to bring the total to five SEC teams in the Top 25.

Left-hander Grayson Garvin was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week for his performance against the Razorbacks on Saturday in a 4-1 win at Baum Stadium. The junior southpaw turned in eight innings allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts for his fourth win of the year. Garvin is the second Commodores’ pitcher to earn the honor this season joining Sonny Gray, who won the award in Week 3.

Vanderbilt returns to action tomorrow night at Hawkins Field against UT-Martin.
