Commodores on the road this weekend

After opening Southeastern Conference play with home wins over Mississippi State and Ole Miss, the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team hits the road this weekend to play at Georgia and Tennessee on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

The eighth-ranked Commodores are 8-2 on the season, including a 2-2 mark over teams ranked in the top 20. Chelsea Preeg, last week’s SEC Player of the Week, leads the team with an 8-1 record in singles play, and has won her last eight matches. Preeg and Jackie Wu have teamed up for an 8-2 mark in doubles matches this spring. The duo of Lauren Mira and Keilly Ulery are 9-1 in No. 3 doubles matches.

Georgia stands 6-1 on the season and is ranked 11th in the latest ITA team poll. In No. 1 singles matches, Chelsea Gullickson holds a 4-2 record, while Maho Kowase is 5-1 in No. 2 matches. Gullickson and Kate Fuller, the 27th ranked doubles pair, are 6-1 in No. 1 doubles matches.

The 21st-ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vols enters the weekend with a 7-3 record and a 1-0 mark in conference play. The No. 3 doubles pair of Jennifer Meredith and Kata Szekely are 8-0 on the season. Natalie Pluskota is 6-3 in No. 1 singles matches, while Rosalia Alda and Brynn Boren have split time at the No. 2 position, tallying a 7-1 combined record.
