3/3/2006 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Commodores begin their SEC campaign this weekend in Nashville, hosting Alabama and Auburn. The No. 55 Crimson Tide (2-4) will roll in Friday at 2:30 to face the No. 15 Commodores. The contest will be Alabama’s first match in nearly two weeks. The Tide last defeated Texas Tech in Tuscaloosa 4-0 on February 19. Alabama’s No. 1 singles player Robin Stephenson is ranked 7th in the country and is 5-1 overall. Stephenson’s only loss of the season came against Northwestern’s Cristelle Grier, ranked 23rd. Stephenson will likely go head to head against Amanda Fish, who is 7-2. Following their dual match against Kentucky in Lexington, the Auburn Tigers will play at the Currey Tennis Center on Sunday at 12 p.m. Auburn split matches last weekend with a win against Southern Illinois (6-0) and a loss to DePaul (7-0) in Chicago. The Commodores (8-1) defeated Rice University last Saturday in a 7-0 sweep. The ‘Dores were led by junior Amanda Fish in singles, who defeated Blair DiSesa in a straight set win. Caroline Ferrell made her No. 4 singles debut for this season in the Rice contest, winning 6-3, 6-2 against Tiffany Lee. On Friday, Vanderbilt’s always spunky marketing department will be on hand to pass out Commodore t-shirts to a few lucky fans.
