Commodores Host June Stewart Fall Invitational 10/22/2003 This weekend’s women’s tennis tournament features 13 ranked players from across the nation Nashville, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team will play host to the June Stewart Fall Invitational Tournament this weekend, Oct. 24-26, at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center. A total of 29 players from five teams will compete in the modified round robin format, showcasing some of the top talent across the nation. Play begins at 9:30 a.m. CT all three days. Vanderbilt seniors and defending ITA All-American doubles national champions Aleke Tsoubanos and Kelly Schmandt will be featured in the first round of the weekend, facing off against Audra Adams and Sabrina Peppl from Ole Miss at 9:30 a.m. CT. The pairings of juniors Audra Falk and Annie Menees and sophomore Ashley Schellhas and freshman Amanda Fish also are scheduled to begin doubles at 9:30 a.m. CT. Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. CT, are planned for Friday. Four Commodores will begin singles play around 1:30 p.m. CT — No. 50 Tsoubanos, No. 58 Schmandt, No. 85 Schellhas and Fish, the ITA Summer Circuit Player of the Year. VU freshman Helene Stephens and sophomore Claire Westerman will start their singles matches at 3:30 p.m. CT. Two rounds of singles are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25, with one final round of both singles and doubles set for Sunday, Oct. 26. Admission is free all weekend. |
