NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 25 Vanderbilt held off a late Georgia rally to win Friday night’s suspended game 12-9 on Saturday afternoon at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores (31-12, 9-10) scored seven runs in the second inning and tacked on three more in the fourth to take a commanding 10-0 lead into the fifth. Tyler Beede worked his fifth scoreless inning but in between innings the outfield lights lost power and could not be restored causing the game to be suspended until Saturday.
After the resumption, the Bulldogs (21-20-1, 7-11-1) roughed up Jared Miller for seven runs in the ninth inning before Brian Miller finished the game to earn his fourth save of the season.
Bryan Reynolds led the way for the Dores going 3-for-4 with a career-best four RBI in the win as the home team collected 13 hits in the win. Xavier Turner’s hitting streak ended at 27 games with the sophomore going 0-for-4 with two walks. Dansby Swanson, Vince Conde and Rhett Wiseman all added two hits apiece.
Beede picked up the win with his five innings of work. The right-hander struck out seven and allowed only two hits to earn his sixth win of the season. Georgia starter Ryan Lawlor took the loss giving up seven runs, two earned, on six hits over 1.1 innings.
