Vandy to begin fall season at North Carolina’s Kitty Harrison Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The fall season for the Vanderbilt women’s tennis program will get underway Friday when play begins at the Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted by North Carolina.

Competing Schools (11): Auburn, Charlotte, Clemson, Duke, Florida, North Carolina, NC State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin

Format: Three 16-player singles draws (Navy, White, Blue) and three eight-team doubles draws (Tar, Heel, Ram) with consolation brackets. First two rounds of singles (Friday) will use a super tiebreaker when players split sets. Rounds 3 and 4 (Saturday and Sunday) will play a full third set. Doubles will be one 8-game pro set. Draws can be found here and matches can be streamed here.

About the Commodores: Vanderbilt opens its 2023-24 season with Celia-Belle Mohr at No. 12 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, Bridget Stammel 67th and Anessa Lee standing No. 103, and the doubles team of Mohr and Holly Staff at No. 59. Freshman Valeria Ray starts her collegiate career ranked No. 9 nationally among freshmen/newcomers. This weekend, Mohr is the top seed in the Blue draw while Stammel is seeded third in the White bracket.

Last Time Out: The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team finished the 2022-23 season ranked No. 30 nationally. Mohr, ranked No. 19, was named an All-American and received a berth into the NCAA Singles Championship, reaching the second round. The Dores finished with a 16-12 record and were selected for the NCAA Tournament for the 28th consecutive year, going on to conclude the campaign No. 2 in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional year-end rankings. Mohr, Stammel and Lee all recorded 30-plus singles wins last season.
