Commodores End Fall Baseball Season with Black and Gold Games 10-8-03 Nashville, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Baseball Team concludes its Fall Baseball Season this weekend with three Black and Gold Games at Hawkins Field. Game times are Friday (Oct. 10) at 6 pm, Sunday (Oct. 12) at 1 pm, and Monday (Oct. 13) at 6 pm. Admission is free for all three games. Prior to Friday’s game, fans can go onto the field and get player and coaches autographs from 4:30 – 5:30 pm Seniors Cesar Nicolas (6-4, 225, IF, Miami, Fla.) and Jonathan Douillard (6-0, 190, C, Acworth, Ga.) won the opportunity (coin flip) to draft the two teams. Nicolas drafted the Gold Team which will be coached by Volunteer Assistant Coach Mike Holder, while Douillard drafed the Black Team which will be coached by Assistant Coach Erik Bakich. Corbin and Assistant Coach Derek Johnson will supervise the games. “We’ve develolped good practice habits and have been able to evaluate our young players during the last four weeks,” Vanderbilt head baseball coach Tim Corbin said. “The Black and Gold games are the closest thing to a game-type atmosphere and it’s important for me to see our players perform under those circumstances.” The Commodores return 19 players from last season’s team that owned a 27-28 record, finished second in the SEC East and advanced to the SEC Tournament for the first time in seven years. Vanderbilt welcomes a recruiting class of 16 new players to the roster that was ranked #24 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.
