NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In the final non-conference match before SEC play begins next weekend, the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team defeated MTSU, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Currey Tennis Center.
The Commodores swept all three doubles matches before winning five of six singles matches. Keilly Ulery and Lauren Mira defeated Carla Nava and Alex Dachos, 8-2, in the No. 3 doubles match before Jackie Wu and Chelsea Preeg earned an 8-5 win in the No. 2 match. Rachael Dillon and Alex Leatu completed the sweep with an 8-4 win on court one.
Ulery quickly defeated Maas, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 4 singles match to increase Vanderbilt’s lead to 2-0. In the No. 5 match, Nelly Radeva earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lexi Brand, and Leatu defeated Marietta Bigus, 6-2, 6-2, to clinch the victory for the Commodores.
On court one, Wu and MTSU’s Yuiri Nomoto played a tough match, splitting the first two sets, 1-6, 6-2, before Nomoto defeated Wu, 10-6, in the tie break set. Megan Gornet and Lauren Mira rounded out the Commodore victories with wins on courts six and three.
Vanderbilt opens up SEC play March 4th and 6th when Mississippi State and Ole Miss visit the Currey Tennis Center. Live scoring will be available for both matches.
