Louisville, Ky. – Vanderbilt used two, two-run home runs in the second inning to beat Louisville 5-1 Tuesday night at Patterson Stadium.
Curt Casali and Connor Harrell each hit two-run homers to put the Commodores up 4-0 in the second and the Dores never trailed. Vanderbilt added an unearned run in the fourth inning and Louisville’s lone run came in the eighth inning ona solo home run from Jeff Gardner. Harrell, Anthony Gomez, Aaron Westlake and Mike Yastrzemski all had two hits to lead VU. Jason Esposito’s 27-game hitting streak came to an end with the third baseman going 0-for-3. Alex Chittenden had two of the Cardinals’ six hits in the loss.
Freshman Kevin Ziomek earned his second win of the year tossing three scoreless innings. Fellow freshman T.J. Pecoraro worked three scoreless innings of his own and Navery Moore worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off Vanderbilt’s 41st win of the year. Louisville reliever Mike Nastold was pinned with the loss allowing bothhome runs in the second inning. The Cardinals used 10 pitchers in the game, including six in the first six innings.
Vanderbilt welcomes eighth-ranked Florida to Hawkins Field this weekend in an important Southeastern Conference match-up. Friday night’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on CSS. Saturday’s game is slated for 2 p.m. and Sunday’s at 1 p.m.
