The Vanderbilt swim team closed its regular season defeating Wingate and Queens (N.C.) in their quad-meet hosted by the University of South Carolina. VU defeated Wingate; 214-100, and Queens 190-146. The `Dores fell to the Gamecocks; 185-149.
“It was a great two days of racing,” said Vanderbilt head coach Jeremy Organ. “I’m really happy with our results as we look ahead to SEC championships. As far as preparing to go to Auburn, it’s time to begin our taper phase of the season, which every swimmers favorite time.”
The Commodore’s 200 medley relay team began the morning’s meet taking second place. Madeline Hunt, Kathryn Coughlin, Breanna Sapienza, and Brenda Cha swim to a time of 1:46.19.
Cha followed her relay’s second place finish with one of her own. The freshman recorded a time of 23.99 in the 50 Free, being edged out of first by SC’s Rachel Elliot.
However, Elly Faulkner earned a first-place finish for the Commodores in the 200 Breast, out swimming the competition at a time of 2:20.17.
Breanna Sapienza and Summer Brown earned two additional second place finishes for the team in the 100 fly and 200 freestyle. Brown finished with a time 56.25 in the fly, and Brown finished her race in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.66.
The Commodores earned their last top-three time in the 400 relay as the team of Brown, Cha, Hannah Martin, and Caroline Thomas earned third with a time of 3:29.78.
Vandy takes a short break in competition then travels to Auburn, Ala. for the SEC championships on Feb. 17th.
