MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In the first round of singles, the Commodores commanded an undefeated start to day two of the Ohio Valley ITA regionals with all five student-athletes claiming victories in the Round of 64 on Friday at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Senior Amanda Meyer picked up the Dores’ first victory of the day taking down Southeast Missouri State’s Tarajova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, followed by freshman Dasha Kourkina battling to mark her spot in the Round of 32 by defeating Purdue’s Wolf-Gasparin, 6-2, 6-1.
Fellow freshman Marcella Cruz defeated Louisville’s Haumuller, 6-2, 6-1, in the Round of 64. Joining Cruz in the Round of 32, freshman Anna Ross bested Southeast Missouri State’s Zonova, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Senior Emma Kurtz outlasted Indiana’s Bozovic, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, to conclude the singles Round of 64 for the Commodores.
In the Round of 32, three Commodores notched their spot in the Round of 16 in the main draw.
Cruz faced Middle Tennessee State’s Alexis to battle for a spot in the Round of 16. The freshman tabbed her second consecutive singles victory in the tournament taking down Alexis, 6-2, 6-1.
Meyer and Kourkina also advanced to the Round of 16 tabbing victories in the Round of 32. Meyer took down Middle Tennessee State’s Barnard, 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-4 followed by Kourkina defeating Larrinaga (ETSU), 4-6, 7-6, 6-0.
In doubles, Kurtz and Ross marked their spot in the doubles quarterfinals with an 8-4 victory over Louisville’s Verma and Haumuller.
The Commodores will be back in action to compete in the singles Round of 16 and quarterfinals followed by the doubles quarterfinals on Saturday at the Adams Tennis Complex.
