NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt scored seven runs in the first inning and never trailed in the Commodores’ 9-4 win over Rhode Island in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Vandy starter Kevin Ziomek earned the win with 7.1 solid innings, setting career marks in innings pitched and strikeouts with nine. The lefty allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits for his first win of 2012.
Spencer Navin paced the VU offense with three hits from the leadoff spot. Connor Harrell knocked in three runs with a double and Tony Kemp scored two runs for the Dores.
