NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a busy day at the Nashville Centennial Sportsplex, the Vanderbilt women’s swim team came up short against South Carolina and Western Kentucky. The Gamecocks topped the Commodores 252-43 while the Hilltoppers won 235-58.

“Today was a good day for us,” Coach Organ said. “We had some good swims and we had some bad swims. I think mentally it was tough since we had a meet yesterday and had to come back today but I think in the big picture it was a good weekend and we have a lot to build off.”

The day was highlighted by Chloe Ott’s third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming the event in a time of 1:06.51. Ott also finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.13 and posted the top-time for a Vanderbilt swimmer in the 200-yard IM.

“Overall, I was happy with my races and I know everyone else was as well,” freshman Chloe Ott said. “The whole team has been working hard and I know we are heading in the right direction.”

Fellow freshman Melissa Roberts finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a season-best time of 24.98. Laura Dillon earned the only other fourth-place finish of the day for the Commodores in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:25.38.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Jennifer Molchan, Jess Eccher, Sarah Lynch and Melissa Roberts finished fifth in a time of 3:42.30 to close out the day.

The Commodores were coming off a 194-43 loss to Arkansas on Friday in the home opener.

The South Carolina women’s team beat Western Kentucky 195-104 while the men’s team won 203-97.

The Vanderbilt women’s swim team will have a break before heading to Bowling Green, Ky., to compete in the Western Kentucky Invitational November 19-21.
