Amy Stevens to represent Australia at the Master’U BNP Paribas Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s tennis student-athlete Amy Stevens will represent Australia in international competition for the second time this year when play begins Friday at the Master’U BNP Paribas Championships. The junior from Geelong was also part of the country’s team at the FISU World University Games that took place prior to the start of the fall semester.

The Master’U BNP Paribas Championships features top-ranked student-athletes from both NCAA institutions as well as other university systems from around the world representing eight nations. The event will be played in Honfleur, France, from Dec. 1-3.

The format for the tournament includes two women’s singles matches, two men’s singles matches, one women’s doubles match, one men’s doubles match, and one mixed doubles match. The country that wins four of these seven matches is declared the victor and advances on in the tournament. Other than Australia and the defending champion United States, countries competing at this year’s championships include Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Stevens competed at four events for the Commodores this fall, posting an 8-5 mark in singles while going 5-5 in doubles action. She won twice to advance to the Round of 32 in the singles draw at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship in October, and she was victorious in all three singles and doubles matches at the Auburn Invite to close out the fall season. Stevens has a career mark of 44-33 in singles at the collegiate level.
