Commodore Pitching Rotation Changes for Baylor Series 3/10/2005 Junior left-hander Ryan Mullins Suspended Indefinitely From the Team Nashville, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt Commodore baseball team will have a different starting rotation this weekend for the Baylor series due to the suspension of junior left-hander Ryan Mullins. Mullins has been suspended indefinitely from the team for a violation of team rules. With Mullins out, junior right-hander Jensen Lewis will get the Friday start, senior right-hander Jeff Sues gets the Saturday start and junior right-hander Matt Buschmann will stay with the Sunday start. “We’re bumping Jensen (Lewis) to Friday, moving Jeff Sues to Saturday, and keeping (Matt) Buschmann on Sunday,” Head Coach Tim Corbin said. “Jeff Sues deserves a chance to pitch as a starter. He’s been throwing well as a reliever and we want to see what he can do in a starting role.” Lewis leads the team with a 3-0 record pitching 19.2 innings and giving up just one run on nine hits. He struck out 26 and walked only five and owns a 0.46 ERA. Sues has made four appearances this season and owns a 2-0 mark and 0.75 ERA. He has given up one run on eight hits and struck out 18. Buschmann is 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in three appearances. He has gone 15.0 innings and has given up three runs on eight hits with 12 strikeouts. Mullins has started the previous two Friday games. He has pitched 18.1 innings and has given up eight runs on 20 hits with three walks and 21 strikeouts. “We are behind him (Mullins) 100 percent”, said Lewis. “We just have to go out this weekend and take the same approach we have all season. Jeff (Sues) is stepping in on Saturday and we’ll all go out with the same mentality we’ve had in each game.” The Commodores are off to their best start in school history with a 12-0 record. Baylor is the first ranked opponent for the Commodores this season. Last season, Vanderbilt took the three-game series against the Bears, 2-1, in Waco, Texas.
